Priorat Històric: Exploring Catalunya’s Most Famous Wine Region
Wine Dinner
Priorat is a small wine region in Catalonia known for its intensely flavorful red wines. An area with a long history, Priorat’s difficult mountainside location kept the region fairly obscure until just a few decades ago; now, it produces some of the most acclaimed wines in Spain. Many vineyards are located on costers (Catalan for “steep slope”) with a gradient of 15–60%, so terracing is common, and vineyards are often too steep and narrow for machine harvesting. With winemaking in Priorat dating back to the 1100s, this wonderous region is full of indigenous varietals that are harvested and made into wine with knowledge that has been passed down for generations.
Our own Shawn Paul, Foxcroft’s Wine Operations Manager, will be guiding you through the region’s history up to the present day. After tasting eight wines and enjoying a paired four-course meal prepared by our culinary team, your experience will help you understand why Priorat is one region that should never be overlooked.
