Weiszel Vineyards farms organically with biodynamic practices in the Kamptal region of Austria. This estate is a true polycultural wonder, with acacia forests to the north protecting the vines from harsh weather and cover crops of wildflowers and shrubs encouraging biodiversity within the vineyard. The grapes are wild fermented – a third as whole bunches – in tank for three weeks, followed by another four months on the lees, then bottled without filtration.
Wine has always played an important role in the Kamptal. Vines were cultivated on south-facing slopes as early as the Middle Ages. Viticulture in the terraces of the Heiligenstein, the Käferberg or the Steinmassl has been documented for almost 1000 years. Knowledge of the special features of the climate and the qualities of the soil has been passed on for generations. They have always shaped the character of the wines and contribute to their independence.
“Raspberries and ripe citrus notes set the tone, complemented by roses and fresh herbs. Powerful and has a lot of tension and energy on the palate. Ends vital and dynamic.”
