Bandol is a key appellation of the Provence wine region in far south-eastern France. Created in 1941, the title covers red, white and rosé wines from roughly 1550 hectares (3830 acres) of vineyards around the Mediterranean coastal town of Bandol. Throughout Provence, a series of low coastal mountain ranges and ridges creates varied microclimates. The warmest are those directly next to the Mediterranean, which also provides a moderating effect. The stretch of coastline that is home to the Bandol appellation is a prime example of this.
In 1999 Céline Devictor-Pascale followed in the footsteps of her father, Achille, who started Domaine Le Galantin in the late 1960s. She is now helped by her brother Jérôme, who works with her to oversee all areas of production from the vineyards and harvest to winemaking and distribution. Today, Domaine Le Galantin farms 30 hectares of terraced vineyards, hand-harvests all of their grapes and follows organic farming practices.
