Bandol is a tiny appellation within Provence, France that is most famous for its rich, peppery, and meaty red wines made almost exclusively with Mourvèdre. These two vintages from Domaine La Bastide Blanche are mainly Mourvèdre blended with Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. Recently released from the producer, these have been cellared under the perfect condition since bottled. Try them side by side and experience the impact that 10 years of ageing can have on a Bandol rouge.

2009 Bandol Rouge
“This is full of succulent dark currant, dried cherry, stewed meat and violet flavors that take on plenty of mocha and bittersweet chocolate notes. The tannic finish is muscular yet restrained, featuring white pepper and cedar overtones.”
-Wine Spectator, 93 Points
2019 Bandol Rouge
“The 2019 presents with a deep purple color and a powerful nose that positively leaps from the glass, with rich licorice, blackberry and bergamot. Dense and full-bodied, this wine is balanced with flavors of black currant, cherry and fig with a hint of pepper and smoked meat. The finish is long with ripe tannins that will soften with time.”
