|||| $89 | 2-Pack: 2020 François Chidaine “Les Choisilles” Montlouis-sur-Loire Chenin Blanc

François Chidaine is located in the picturesque town of Montlouis located directly across the river from Vouvray and just up-river from Tours. The estate is run by Francois Chiadian a second-generation vigneron with the help of his wife Manuela. François is very passionate about Chenin Blanc for its diversity and potential to create age worthy wines. He is known to make some of the most terroir transparent, complex and age worthy Chenin Blanc. He is also extremely devoted to natural farming, especially the practice of regenerative agriculture. This practice involves the implementation of practices known to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and convert it into plant material and organic matter. His vision isn’t only about growing the best grapes or making the best wine, but rather a vision for a better future.

Les Choisilles is a cuvée, usually blended from old vines in the vineyards of Les Epinais, La Taille aux Loups and Clos au Renard. It’s named after a type of black flint called (you guessed it) choisille. Les Choisilles is a concentrated, focused dry wine that often needs several years to develop.

“Les Choisilles is an estate blend of bunches left to hang longer than usual in the various Montlouis vineyards, but nonetheless vinified dry. They are in fact grapes from the same lot as Les Tuffeaux, but picked in earlier passes. The nose is somewhat more tropical than the other dry bottlings, with some truffle, candied citrus peel and quince paste. Quite full in the mouth, it nonetheless possesses bracing acidity and good minerality that goes on and on.”
