$99 | 2017 Conde Valdemar Gran Añada Espumoso De Rioja

First Single Vineyard Sparkling Rioja Produced

The Martinez Bujanda family, producers of Valdemar wines, founded their original winery in 1889. They own 820 acres of vineyards, which makes Valdemar one of the largest estates in the Rioja. A new winery was built in 1984 to take advantage of modern technologies, integrating both new and time-honored traditions of winemaking. Currently, the 5th generation is operating the family business with the intention to pass it down for another 5 generations.

Produced from 100% Viura. The base wine was aged on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks and a part in new French oak barrels of 225 liters for 8 months. It was then bottle aged on its lees for 40 months prior to disgorging.

“Brilliant pale yellow colour, with light straw reflections. The bubble is very small, with continuous detachment in the form of beads that generate a stable crown on the surface. On the nose it is very intense, with fresh notes of fruit and white flowers predominating at first, as well as a mineral background that evokes the limestone origin of the soil from which it comes. It is very complex, with many layers and notes of bakery and sweet spices typical of aging on its fine lees can be appreciated. On the palate it is vibrant, full of character but at the same time soft and elegant. It shows sapidity, a salty point that is very characteristic of the wines from this plot that enhances the freshness of this sparkling wine even after 40 months of aging in the bottle. Sensation of a creamy bubble,”
