| | $99.99 | 2-BOTTLE CASE: ~The Master of Montefalco: Arnaldo Caprai~

Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco “Collepiano”

The family operation began in 1971 when textiles entrepreneur Arnaldo Caprai purchased 12.5 acres in Montefalco. In 1988, ownership passed on to Arnaldo’s son Marco, who began the project to cultivate the promotion of the grape that has been growing in the Montefalco region for more than 400 years: Sagrantino. Today, the winery is the leading producer of top quality Montefalco Sagrantino, a wine produced exclusively from this native variety.

The 2015 Collepiano Montefalco Sagrantino represents the renaissance of Montefalco as a wine region and Sagrantino as a unique variety grown only in Montefalco. Collepiano is Sagrantino’s area of production at Caprai and the name recalls the gentle slopes that characterize these hills. With an aging potential of 10-15 years, this 100% Sagrantino is aged for 22 months in French oak barriques, followed by a minimum of 6 months in bottle. The taste is powerful yet elegant with bold tannins that hint at the ability for long aging.

Kerin O’Keefe from Wine Enthusiast describes the taste profile here: “Aromas of dark-skinned berries, toasted oak and underbrush lead the nose. The spicy, structured palate offers dried black cherry, black pepper, tobacco and clove alongside tight, close grained tannins.” – November 2019
