| $44.99 | 1-BOTTLE CASE: ~Burgundy Royalty Reborn: Domaine Clair-Daü Marsannay Rosé

A Legendary Burgundy Domaine and Master of Marsannay

Marsannay is the northernmost commune of the Côte d’Or, almost overlapping the city limits of Dijon, three miles north of Gevrey-Chambertin. In 1987, Marsannay was granted its own A.O.C. appellation and became the first village for which the appellation applies to red, white and rosé wines. Grapes are destemmed and macerate a short time in order to get a light pink color. This wine stays then in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Domaine Clair-Daü has long been considered one of the great domaines of Burgundy. Founded in 1919, the wines produced throughout the 20th century from vineyards in Grand Cru and Premier Cru Vineyards have become highly sought-after treasures, coveted by collectors the world over. But years of in-fighting between members of the two families owning portions of the Domaine took their toll and sadly the organization was dissolved and put up for sale. Domaine Louis Jadot acquired a substantial portion of the property in 1985, including vines in Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Gevrey–Chambertin Clos St. Jacques, and other distinguished vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, including several in Marsannay. Today the talented team at Louis Jadot continue to produce wines from select parcels of older vines in hommage to the great name of Clair-Daü.

Tasting Notes: Generous, ripe strawberry and red cherry, with earth and dry spice on the nose; more red fruit on the palate, fresh acidity and a complex back-and-forth of fruit and earth. Lots going on in this wine, and it’s built to age.
