The Schild family’s journey leads from being early German pioneers in 1866 to becoming one of the Barossa’s oldest family-owned grape growers and most successful wineries. In 1952 Edgar Schild, then only 16 years old, took over the management of the then small Schild farm and vineyard in the southern Barossa Ranges, on the passing of his father Ben Schild. Edgar has expanded the vineyards holdings of vines over diverse sites ranging from vineyard planted from 1847 to 2018. The family business now includes the fourth generation that is involved in the day to day operations.
This full bodied wine opens with notes of dark plum, black pepper and subtle wood spices along with smoked meats on the nose. The fruits develop into dark berries on the palate and combine with the classic Shiraz flavors of dark chocolate and coffee bean. The finish is long and rich with lush fruit and a super fine tannin structure.
Aged 18 months in French, Hungarian and American Oak.
Spending 24 months in bottle before being released from the vineyard.
