La Spinetta Timorasso White Wine

La Spinetta Piccolo Derthona is produced from the Timorasso grape, a characteristic white variety native to the Tortona area in the southeast of Piedmont. The variety is prized for its firm acidity, lovely aromatic lift, and minerality. So much so that the Piedmontese believe it to be their answer to Chardonnay from Chablis, Grüner from Austria, or Chenin from the Loire. Timorasso is entirely localized within Tortona in the far north-western corner of the zone, an area representing both the transitional gateway between the Po plains and the Mediterranean Sea and the very northernmost reaches of the Apennines, resulting in considerable variability in microclimate, altitude and soil type, key components of terroir.

You’ll probably recognize the famous La Spinetta rhinoceros (an iconic woodcut by German artist Albrecht Dürer) from the multitude of other spectacular wines from this producer.

Tasting Notes
“A glistening straw-yellow with hints of green at the rim, bursting with scents of green apple, citrus, wildflower honey, sea salt, and green almond carrying over to the medium-bodied palate. It is a fascinating new sensation for lovers of structured white wines and will be a perfect partner for green salads, seafood, or a strong, salty Piedmontese cheese like Castelmagno”
