Winemaker Erin Pooley was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. Before relocating to California she graduated from Charles Sturt University with a degree in Wine Science. Little Frances continues to expand on what is possible for Northern Californian wine with her fabulous Chenin Blanc from the region of Clarksburg, which is just south of Sacramento in California, and is sourced from Heringer Vineyard. Citrusy and fresh with lush granny smith apple fruit, this was fermented with wild yeasts in neutral French barrels and was bottled unfined with very minimal sulfites.
Nearly unequaled in its diversity of styles, Chenin Blanc is truly a chameleon of a grape. It shines in every style from bone dry to unctuously sweet, oaked or unoaked, still or sparkling and even as the base for fortified wines and spirits. Perhaps Chenin Blanc’s greatest asset is its ever-present acidity, maintained even under warm growing conditions. And it also ages and improves effortlessly for decades, a rarity among even the best whites of the world.
