Description

Before the last 10 years South African Wines barely crested the bottom of the grocery store shelf. Most of the wine produced in the country went directly to be distilled into brandy. Today the story is changing. South African wines have emerged as both some of the best valued red and white wines and in the highest quality.

The country has a particularly long and rich history with winemaking, especially considering its status as part of the “New World.” Wine production is mainly situated around Cape Town, where the climate is generally warm to hot. But the Benguela Current from Antarctica provides brisk ocean breezes necessary for steady ripening of grapes. Similarly, cooler, high-elevation vineyard sites throughout South Africa offer similar, favorable growing conditions.

Buoyant on the palate, showing savoury aromas with sappy and stalky notes, chargrilled meat and herbs, with dark plum overtones. Lush and complex on the palate.
-Decanter, 94 Points

“The nose is enticing and complex, offering an abundance of dark plums, violets, cured meat, and black olives. The dark berry fruit of the nose follows through onto the palate with pepper and allspice notes. The wine is elegant yet juicy, with grippy tannins and ample acidity to create exceptional balance and structure. The violets of the nose linger on the finish with classic hints of white pepper.”
