Pioneering Organic Viticulture in Paso Robles
Since 2001, Cris and JoAnn Cherry have been driven by exploration of the unique microclimates of west Paso Robles. Through wine, they tell the story of each vintage from the perspective of west Paso Robles vineyard sources: their own MAHA Estate Vineyard, James Berry Vineyard, Luna Matta Vineyard and Denner Vineyard. Production is limited to 3,000 cases or less each vintage and the wines are sold almost entirely direct to an allocation list and wine club. A select few wines are made each year, with the Willow Creek Cuvée (inspired by Châteauneuf-du-Pape) expressing deep, rich black fruits and earth-driven flavors and exuding simply spectacular aromatics.
“…Grenache-dominated, the 2017 Willow Creek Cuvée checks in as 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre that saw 30% stems and aging in 30% new barrels and puncheons. It’s always slightly deeper colored than the Garnacha release and offers a great nose of pure black cherries, blackberries, singed cedar, ground pepper, and hints of chocolate. Beautifully textured, layered, and balanced, you can’t go wrong with this cuvée, which will keep for upwards of a decade.”
