In 1936, Châteauneuf-du-Pape became the very first wine appellation in France and is now the benchmark of the Southern Rhône. This famous and largest sub-appellation in the Southern Rhône Valley produces some white wines, but is most well-known for its full-bodied, seductive, and spicy reds. Grenache is the dominant grape by far, with another 17 grapes playing a role in the blend. For many, the wines produced here have served as a gateway to the wine world. If you get a taste of this region’s wines, chances are, you’re going to be hooked.
